Title: Weather Centre
The Powers That Be - February 15, 2008 05:09 PM (GMT)
The third of the training buildings unattached to the mansion, the weather centre is as vast as the other two. Past the secure door, the room opens into a massive metal dome, but one with a thick fibreglass floor. Beneath the metre or so of flooring, the movement of water slicks underfoot. This is because there is a large swimming pool dug into the ground. The pool can be accessed via a control panel near the door. The control panel also can be configured to create any kind of weather phenomena the user wishes.
Paz - February 15, 2008 05:22 PM (GMT)
::And still, somehow Paz gets there before Woody. Even though she left him all alone to walk there while she orbed. Cruel!::
"Woody?"
Woody - February 15, 2008 05:53 PM (GMT)
::Woody orbs in beside Paz. Even her orbs are more efficient. She's quick.::
"Sorry about that. I had to attend to another charge."
::She looks at the door expectantly, then just tries the handle. She's allowed in the school, she should be able to open it fine. She can. They walk inside and the door closes silently behind them, a warning that the room is 'in use' showing on the outside now. The whitelighter takes a slow wander in a circle around the room, but there's not much to see. Her attention is turned to the control panel and she heads over to it, examining it for a minute or so before pressing a button. The floor in the centre slides open to reveal the pool of water. The touch screen in front of her then changes to ask her what type of water she'd like. Boiling? Ice? Room temperature? And would you like waves? What kind? Whirlpools? Easy? Tidal?::
(Wow.)
::OMG GET THE CAMERA! SHE'S IMPRESSED!::
Paz - February 15, 2008 06:36 PM (GMT)
::Paz laughs and looks at Woody's expression. That's not one he's going to see often.::
"Yeah, it's good. Paige is some headmistress!"
Woody - February 15, 2008 06:39 PM (GMT)
"She certainly is."
::Woody's tone does not denote whether she thinks this is a good thing or a bad thing. She presses another button and the water disappears under the thick floor as it closes over once more.::
"I suppose we don't need any particular ambiance-"
::She says the word a French accent on it.::
"-as such. Hm. Well, actually..."
::She scrolls through options.::
"Stand in the centre, please."
Paz - February 15, 2008 08:48 PM (GMT)
"...Okay."
::Paz looks a little worried and goes to the centre of the room. What is she going to do?::
Woody - February 15, 2008 08:55 PM (GMT)
"Okay..."
::Woody mumbles under her breath, then taps out a few commands. The lights dim, then engulf the witch and whitelighter in darkness. The effect is night, though Woody has cancelled appearance of the moon and stars to ensure complete blackness.::
"All right, Paz. Show me the strength of your light power. I want to be able to see my cuticles. Room-wide, if you will."
(It's a very large area. Let's see how he does.)
Paz - February 15, 2008 09:09 PM (GMT)
(Easy!)
::Paz spreads his hands out to his side and creates a flash of bright light that spreads outward from him in a sweeping motion. Sure, the room is big, but within a moment it's as brightly lit as it was before, if not more, due to the cleaner and purer appearance of his light. He holds it steady and shrugs at Woody.::
Woody - February 15, 2008 09:20 PM (GMT)
::Woody examines her cuticles, then plays with them for a second before looking up as if she'd forgotten Paz was there.::
"Okay, good."
::She plays with the computer some more and the lights return to normal. She glances up and sees that there's adequate drainage in the floor. She tweaks a few more settings and the room begins to chill immediately. Snow fills the air rapidly and sets on the floor. She presses the 'ice' option, then selects 'large' and hatches in the wall open up to present large blocks of ice sliding out into the room. She mouths a word:
"Wow..."
Then raises her voice.::
"Melt it."
::And she means all of it.::
Paz - February 15, 2008 10:26 PM (GMT)
::This, however, is going to be more of a challenge. Dropping his control of the light, Paz thinks for a moment. Lasers had been his initial thought, but that'd be stupid when he can create a wave of heat strong enough to melt the ice rather quickly. The trouble is, while he can now control heat without a flame, it's not like he can create that much from nowhere. He needs a flame, and there's nothing to set fire to.::
(I like this t-shirt!)
::Looking a little sad, Paz rips off the sleeve from his t-shirt with an overly dramatic flair. He cups the fabric in his hand and ignites it with a small laser beam. The flame that is produced doesn't spread or hurt his hand because he keeps the level of heat focussed. Then, he throws the flaming rag in the air and gestures wildly, amplifying the heat to large proportions. He then sends it in waves around the room, focussing on the large chunks of ice. It happens, and quite quickly for the task, and soon there is water everywhere, the ice having yielded to the heat. Now, looking a little more like he's having a good work out, Paz turns to Woody and nods his head, satisfied that he did the job well.::
Woody - February 15, 2008 10:35 PM (GMT)
::Woody nods, and plays with the control panel as the water drains away. Isn't she luck that the control panel is raised on a platform? She's still dry.
The nature of the room isn't like the training block: it's not possible to actually change the scene. Just types of weather. Which is a shame, because she has some ideas that would work out better in there. But she'll make do with this.::
"Hit the targets."
::She dims the lights so Paz can see better and starts throwing whitelighter orbs in different directions, slowly at first. She believes his power is strong, but wonders about his accuracy.::
Paz - February 15, 2008 11:44 PM (GMT)
::Paz is good at that too! He points his finger like a gun and fires off small and precise blasts. She's testing the powers he's had for longer, and is more at home with, so he's quite safe in the use of them. It's his detonation and invisibility that are the ones he has no idea about.
Because he's only aiming to hit the targets and not to really cause maximum damage, his beams aren't full force as usual. His magic level is going down slightly, so he aims to conserve some power now for anything she might ask him to do later.::
Woody - February 16, 2008 12:00 AM (GMT)
::Woody throws energy balls faster now, the air beginning to fill with them.::
Paz - February 16, 2008 01:22 AM (GMT)
::Of course, Paz tries to keep up and begins to struggle a little. There are loads to keep track of, and while he's quick and his aim is good, he isn't that quick. He begins to miss them, allowing a few to hit the wall and burst into showers of sparkly lights. Still, he tries, though the repetition is beginning to wear him down.::
Woody - February 16, 2008 09:30 AM (GMT)
"Come on, Paz! Keep it up!"
::Woody continues with the intensity herself.::
"What if these were demons?"
Woody - February 16, 2008 11:12 AM (GMT)
::Hearing Petunius' call, Woody stops throwing energy balls.::
"Hold that thought, Paz. Petunius is calling me. Get your breath back."
::She orbs to the kitchen.::
Paz - February 16, 2008 12:36 PM (GMT)
::And that he does. Paz takes the oportunity to catch his breath and recharge his energy as much as possible in the short space of time he'll have.::
Woody - February 16, 2008 01:05 PM (GMT)
::Woody returns, orbing in back behind the control panel. She's all business as soon as she appears.::
"All right, where were we?"
::She takes a second to get her bearings and then nods to herself, remembering, and starts throwing a volley of whitelighter energy balls once more.::
"Hit the targets, Paz!"
::Her words are semi-encouraging, semi-commanding.::
Paz - February 16, 2008 01:11 PM (GMT)
::It seems as if Paz has somewhat of a burts of energy and confidence. It was her previous instruction to act as though they were demons. All of a sudden he's not as still as he was. Paz moves fluidly, swinging out his hands wildly to throw out laser beam after laser beam onto the targets. The concentration is evident on his face.::
Woody - February 16, 2008 01:14 PM (GMT)
::Woody is testing Paz's stamina as well as his strength and aim. She's annoyed that the trial was disturbed by something which so evidently ended up being a waste of her time, but now that Paz's adrenaline will be up, this is probably the best time to try again.::
(Not an entire waste of time...)
::No. Every moment she spent with her new charges taught her something new about them and how things are being run around here. Woody won't deny that there's a lot of good ideas floating around... but some things are absolutely awful.
The whitelighter reflects as she herself begins to sweat slightly, sending attack after attack with flicking wrists all around the room. She won't stop until he does, though, and a timer on the screen of the console is ticking away the minutes and seconds as they pass.::
"Come on! Is that all you got?"
::She intensifies the speed and volume of attacks.::
Paz - February 16, 2008 01:23 PM (GMT)
::Paz grits his teeth as he pushes himself further. He continues to motion as his whitelighter does, aiming countless beams of light at the moving orbs of light. He too has broken a sweat, and his breath is back to a deep rhythm, much like after a brisk jog. He's trying to keep it up, and for now he's succeeding. The horrible thing is that he knows that she won't stop until he does, and he really doesn't want to finish first. He wants her to approve of him and to like him and to think of him as a good charge. Not some useless witch who couldn't keep going for longer than a few minutes.::
Woody - February 16, 2008 01:26 PM (GMT)
::Woody breathes deeply through her nose, listening to it in her ears and using it to hold her rhythm. It's been several minutes now and in order to stop herself faltering at such high intensity (this is about as hard as it gets), the whitelighter starts mixing it up a little by leaving pauses between orbs or throwing a large amount of them at once. She glances at the clock but is more than capable of continuing for longer if she needs to.::
Paz - February 16, 2008 02:53 PM (GMT)
::Paz struggles with his movements now, and faulters when producing a beam, using a little too much time to charge the blasts and nearly missing most of his targets. It's getting too much now, and he'll have to stop. His chest is heaving, and the heat he is experiencing has caused his bow to be drenched in sweat. As much as he doesn't want to stop first, he has to. One last ditch push, though. He clasps his hands together and then focusses for a second before ripping them apart quickly. He unleashes a barrage of lasers toward the orbs in the air all at the same time, like little darts of heat. Not all will hit an orb, and not all orbs will be hit, but that's him done.
Now stopping, Paz bends doble, his hands on his knees as he catches his breath.::
"Okay. I'm done."
::He pants out his submission, waving a hand and Woody without looking at her and hopes she doesn't view him as some kind of weak witch. He likes approval.::
Woody - February 16, 2008 05:30 PM (GMT)
::Woody is smiling slightly as she stops the attacks and brings the lights up to normal. She doesn't say anything, but notes the time Paz lasted and nods to herself.::
"All right. Now I know you're tired, but I want you to show me your invisibility trick and tell me if it's easy to sustain."
Paz - February 16, 2008 05:58 PM (GMT)
"Okay, I'll try."
::Paz, still breathing heavily, hangs his head and pushes the light away from himself, bending it to render him invisible. Though it's a brand new power, it's not that hard to keep up. I mean, yeah, it is. He's tired and low on magical energy, but the invisibility is an off-shoot of his primary power, and so it's much easier for him to get a grip on, even at this early stage.::
Woody - February 16, 2008 06:00 PM (GMT)
"Do you think you can keep that up?"
Paz - February 16, 2008 06:13 PM (GMT)
"I think so."
::His breath can be heard as he tries to steady it. He has to keep in constant check on his invisibility, but to be honest, it's not all that difficult. Or so he thinks. His invisible form ripples slightly a few times in the air.::
Woody - February 16, 2008 06:20 PM (GMT)
::Seeing this, Woody smiles slightly to herself and leaves the control panel, walking down and towards where Paz is. She looks at him.::
"Your objective? Hit me-"
::She pats the back of her head.::
"Here. Manually. While avoiding detection."
::She pauses for a second before dropping her weight slightly, moving into a ready stance with her hands up in front of her face. She listens for the sound of Paz's breathing and keeps her eyes out of focus so she can see peripherally for any more ripples of movement. Then she lashes out with a sharp jab aimed about Paz's chest height. If it hits him, it's enough to hurt but not too much.::
Paz - February 16, 2008 06:29 PM (GMT)
::Paz darts out of the way of Woody's jab. He wasn't expecting it too much, but still, he was quick enough to dodge anyways. He takes a few steps back, his form rippling again.::
"I don't want to hit you, though."
Woody - February 16, 2008 06:31 PM (GMT)
"Just a slap."
::Woody's eyes follow Paz's movements and she realises he might always have that ripple effect when he moves. She turns around full circle, pretending not to know where he is. She then takes a few striding steps in the wrong direction, but is listening for Paz's inevitable footsteps. She's ready.::
Paz - February 16, 2008 06:35 PM (GMT)
::Paz's breath is now steady in his throat, and so he can keep his respiration quiet enough to avoid detection hopefully, and he's quite light on his feet, but he's never going to be silent, is he?
He tries to keep his power steady and takes a few steps around Woody, moving back a little and then toward her a few steps. It's not a quick movement, cause he feels that would make a lot of noise, but instead he's slow and steady.::
Woody - February 16, 2008 06:38 PM (GMT)
::Woody realises that he's trying to be quiet. When she can't bear waiting any longer, she spins around with a kick that, again, won't be hard - unless he's unbalanced in which case it might knock him over. And ha if it does. If it hits! Dun dun dun!::
Paz - February 16, 2008 06:41 PM (GMT)
::Which it does, catch him that is. It doesn't know him over however. He grabs hold of the legs as it hits his stomach and pushes it past him, not roughly, but just to keep her turning and possibly throw her balance.::
Woody - February 16, 2008 06:56 PM (GMT)
::It works. Woody loses her balance as the spin goes further than she intended and manages to catch herself facing the opposite direction. She ducks as soon her her foot's on the ground, though, anticipating he might try to touch that hallowed spot on the back of her head.::
Paz - February 16, 2008 07:30 PM (GMT)
::And in anticipation of the duck, he aims down in attempt to tap her on the back of her head. Here's to hoping!::
Woody - February 16, 2008 08:13 PM (GMT)
::You got her! Woody stands up and turns around, grinning. Yeah, she thinks it's fun!::
"Good job!"
::She pushes a palm heel out suddenly, wanting to get him back.::
Paz - February 17, 2008 12:56 AM (GMT)
::As he's invisible, Woody's aim was just off his nose. It smacks into his cheek and the sudden shock actually causes his invisibility to flash away, exposing him once more.::
Woody - February 17, 2008 11:14 AM (GMT)
"Oh-"
::Woody's hands move to her mouth and she laughs, embarrassed.::
"Sorry."
::She hadn't meant to hit him in the face at all. The whitelighter has come alive. There's few things she's as passionate about as her work, and it's a pleasure to receive a new charge who already has a firm grasp on his abilities.::
"I'd be interested to see if you could manage to do that against Professor Liu."
Paz - February 17, 2008 01:16 PM (GMT)
::Paz laughs.::
"I really don't think that even invisibility would help get past Julie's ninja skills. She'd accidentally snap my neck or something."
Woody - February 17, 2008 01:53 PM (GMT)
"All the more reason to practice regularly."
::Woody gets a strange smile on her face, then becomes serious again.::
"And then there's this other power of yours. Is it just combustion or do you have another name for it?"
::It looked like what she'd call combustion.::
