Title: Hannah Webster's Office

Sharon - December 23, 2005 10:26 PM (GMT)
Sharon is shown in by Hannah and asked to take a seat. Hannah has the athame Sharon brought in.

::Sharon does so and crosses her legs.::

"I don't suppose you could tell me anything about the design?"

Hannah Webster - December 23, 2005 10:32 PM (GMT)
::Also sitting down, Hannah looks at the handle of the athame and pauses.::

"That's odd. There seems to be bits of ancient Gaelic mixed in with Latin. It's... pretty tough to decipher. On top of that, I really don't know any Gaelic, I can just recognise the shape, and our best Latin translator left us a good few years ago."

(And apparently passed away.)

"Still, I'll take some photographs and get back to you with a translation. This is interesting."

::She points at the family seal on it.::

"I'm sure I've seen it before somewhere."

Sharon - December 23, 2005 10:42 PM (GMT)
"I ehm, inherited it from an uncle who was a priest."

(Yes...)

"A friend who knows something about these things told me it might be used in... ceremonial things."

Hannah Webster - December 23, 2005 10:48 PM (GMT)
"Certainly could be. Did you say a priest? Is it a family heirloom, by any chance?"

Sharon - December 23, 2005 10:51 PM (GMT)
(Uh...)

"Yes, it is."

Hannah Webster - December 23, 2005 10:56 PM (GMT)
"Okay, so strong ties to the church... let's see if my hunch is going to take us anywhere."

::She turns to her computer and types like crazy for a while. About a minute later she looks triumphant.::

"Aha. Here."

::She turns the monitor around to show Sharon. On the screen is a black and white picture of the interior of the church the Irish will surely recognise.::

"This church - it's not in use anymore - but it's about twenty minutes from here, in a cemetary. If I just pull up a picture from the outside..."

::Which she does. The church is now shown from the outside, looking pretty crumbly but not in as bad a shape as it is now.::

"Look."

::She points to above the door. It's the same seal that's on the handle.::

Sharon - December 23, 2005 11:07 PM (GMT)
::Sharon studies it for a moment.::

"Right... so... could you estimate how old it is?"

Hannah Webster - December 23, 2005 11:09 PM (GMT)
"Judging from the aging on the metal - and it has aged quite well, I'd say about two hundred years. Perhaps a little older. It was custom made for a very rich buyer, I'd imagine. Who looks like they owned this church."

Sharon - December 23, 2005 11:19 PM (GMT)
"And could you find out who that was?"

Hannah Webster - December 23, 2005 11:21 PM (GMT)
"Yep. It'll probably be online, and if not, it'll definitely be in newspapers. We have them all archived on computerised databases."

(Give us your money.)

Sharon - December 23, 2005 11:31 PM (GMT)
"Okay."

::Waits.::

Hannah Webster - December 23, 2005 11:41 PM (GMT)
"Let's see."

::Hannah taps more and pulls up some newspapers. She's silent for a few minutes as she works.::

"So this was passed down to you from your uncle, did you say?"

Sharon - December 23, 2005 11:43 PM (GMT)
"Ehm, yes..."

(Oops?)

Hannah Webster - December 23, 2005 11:46 PM (GMT)
"Got a name for me?"

Sharon - December 23, 2005 11:53 PM (GMT)
"..."

::Uh.::

"Well his name was 'Kohr', like mine, but I believe he had his mother's name, and the knife was his father's. I don't know what that name was, sorry."

Hannah Webster - December 23, 2005 11:57 PM (GMT)
"That's not so helpful. And odd, for him to have his mother's name, even if it was..."

::She looks at Sharon.::

"Twenty or so years ago."

::Ooh, is that a compliment?::

Sharon - December 24, 2005 12:00 AM (GMT)
"His father died before he was born and his mother never remarried, she went back to her maiden name."

(The more lies you tell...)

"Will you still be able to find it?"

Hannah Webster - December 24, 2005 12:03 AM (GMT)
"Yes."

::Hannah smiles at Sharon.::

"I'm sorry, I haven't even introduced myself yet. Hannah Webster."

::She half-stands and offers her hand.::

Sharon - December 24, 2005 12:40 PM (GMT)
::Sharon smiles back as she takes it.::

"Sharon Kohr. And thank you for helping me here."

Hannah Webster - December 24, 2005 12:47 PM (GMT)
"It's my pleasure."

::Hannah smiles and takes her seat again.::

"Ah. Here we go. I didn't think it'd be too difficult. The original owner of the building had it made to resemble a church - so it wasn't actually built for worshipping but when he died it was passed on to be used for that purpose."

::She scrolls a bit.::

"He was a very religious man, which is why he wanted his home to look the way it does. Hang on."

::She frowns.::

"He didn't die of age or sickness. He was killed..."

Sharon - December 24, 2005 12:55 PM (GMT)
(Well that's not a surprise.)

"Who by?"

Hannah Webster - December 24, 2005 01:06 PM (GMT)
"The townspeople. Pitchforks and all. This doesn't make any sense, though."

::Hannah clicks on a few things.::

"Apparently he had many children of his own, but also adopted ones who didn't have parents, because he had the money and the space to look after them. He was a good man."

Sharon - December 24, 2005 01:44 PM (GMT)
::Sharon frowns.::

"So why would they kill him?"

(Magic?)

Hannah Webster - December 24, 2005 02:13 PM (GMT)
"That's what I'm trying to find out."

::Hannah frowns and bites her lip.::

"I'll check the papers."

::She opens up a programme and types some words into the search engine.::

"Hopefully they can tell us something."

Sharon - December 24, 2005 02:27 PM (GMT)
::Sharon nods and uncrosses her legs.::

(Hopefully this will actually have something to do with those kids.)

Hannah Webster - December 24, 2005 05:24 PM (GMT)
"Hm."

::Reading what's on the screen for a while, Hannah turns the monitor around and shows Sharon again. The newspaper article reads 'WELBY CHILD-KILLING ACCUSATIONS'.::

"His name was Colin Welby. He came from the settlers, sounds English to me."

::She continues to different articles.::

"Seems he wasn't as good as I first thought. They found proof."

Sharon - December 24, 2005 06:59 PM (GMT)
::Sharon stares at the screen.::

(So that's what...)

"So he adopted these children and then murdered them? Why?"

Hannah Webster - December 25, 2005 12:08 AM (GMT)
"Beats me."

::Hannah reads a little more.::

"It says something about ritual work and sacrifice... but that's hardly a... Christian thing to do."

Sharon - December 25, 2005 02:16 PM (GMT)
(With the athame.)

"I uh... don't suppose you could find any pictures of him? Or the children?"

Hannah Webster - December 27, 2005 11:26 AM (GMT)
"There's some right here."

::Hannah shows Sharon the pictures. The man is a heavy-built - strong, not fat - grim looking fellow in his fifties. He has slicked-back black hair and something of a walrus moustache. And fuzzy eyebrows. Sharon should recognise as the apparition that appeared and came towards her. He's not the type of man you'd want to leave your kids with. And evidently he wasn't, as Hannah scrolls down to show some of the victims. There's about twelve little boys and girls.::

"These are just some of them, though. It says there's a feature in the next newspaper with memorials to each of the... fifty eight children he slaughtered in that place."

::However, in the twelve they're viewing, the little girl that had spoken to Sharon is pictured right there, the yellowed image gently shivering on the screen.::

Sharon - January 5, 2006 06:53 PM (GMT)
"That's..."

::Sharon shivers slightly.::

"Ehm... how did he die?"

Hannah Webster - January 5, 2006 07:47 PM (GMT)
"They fenced him in and burned him down. It's why the place is in such a bad. Though about fifty years later, they followed the note in his will and did it up to serve as an actual church. It was abandoned not long after, though."

Sharon - January 8, 2006 06:18 PM (GMT)
::Sharon nods slowly and sits back in her chair, her mind swimming with all this information.::

(And now they all haunt it. God.)

::She quickly thinks over Hannah's last comment.::

"It's abandoned, did you say?"

Hannah Webster - January 8, 2006 06:59 PM (GMT)
::Hannah leans back from the computer and smiles grimly at Sharon.::

"Yep. Has been for over a hundred years. Crazy. Though I guess these days it's a little odd to attend church in a graveyard. Used to be how they all were, though. You know, people liked the idea of their final resting place being close to God's home. Still, that place has not been used for a long, long time. I guess it's just one of those buildings that remains there. People have probably thought about renovating it or cleaning it up but it's just never happened."

Sharon - January 8, 2006 07:07 PM (GMT)
::Sharon frowns.::

(What about the priest, though? He... I suppose he might have been a spirit, like the others, but she hasn't mentioned him.)

::She affects a grin and tries to laugh.::

"I suppose it's probably full of ghosts, then."

Hannah Webster - January 8, 2006 07:16 PM (GMT)
::Hannah chuckles.::

"Sure, if you believe in that sort of thing! You never know."

(Yes you do. I do. And I wouldn't be damn well surprised if it was. Freaking ghosts.)

Sharon - January 8, 2006 07:52 PM (GMT)
(I'm not going to get anything to do with the magic behind this from here, obviously.)

"You know, it's odd... one of my friends who likes, you know, the supernatural side of things went round there recently, and she said she saw a priest there."

Hannah Webster - January 8, 2006 08:07 PM (GMT)
::Hannah frowns a little.::

"What, you mean a ghost or a real person?"

Sharon - January 8, 2006 08:24 PM (GMT)
"A real person. As far I know."

Hannah Webster - January 8, 2006 08:31 PM (GMT)
"Good..."

::Hannah grins.::

"Well, perhaps he was there to pay his respects. I wouldn't know, maybe if she sees him again she can ask him."
